alamak

Aisay...steadily gaining another kg.
Demmmmmmm!

Blaming it on the carbs, as am currently reading this :

I love pastry way too much.
Ok scrap that. Not just pastry. Or buttered bread. Or pasta. Or ikan keli goreng berlada. Or karipap. Or tuna sandwiches with lotsa pepper.

Basically, I simply love having food. Glorious, delicious food.

Should be time to hit the gym again, methinks. But how? I've just freezed my membership, considering it's nearly Ramadhan. I've wasted about four months of it anyway - haven't been there since March.

Treadmill kat rumah ajelah nampaknya.

Devil's Advocate : Haha. Really? :p

ini sudah lebeh!

Had full-fare Minang food for lunch, and still I could polish off a WHOLE packet of Oreo's afterwards! All this before it's even 2pm! I've also started again eating rice for dinner regardless of the time I got back home, i.e. even if it is already 11pm. Cannot tahan la seeing the fabulous lauks.

At the rate I'm going, I can forget lah the 2nd stage plan. Isk. Demmm.

Cemana ni? Cemana? Haa??

mission accomplished!

I MADE IT!!!

It took me NINE MONTHS to lose that 11.6 kgs and reach my goal of 50kgs :)
The journey has been long, but seriously I won't say it's been too hard-lah. Chewah. But yeah, seriously. I got moral support, lots of it. I got a gang of friends and close family members who are on a losing weight track too. I was (and am!) still able to enjoy delicious food all the way. The shakes are delicious. It was a fast ride in the beginning, then slowed a bit, up and down back a bit, plateaued for about 3 months there before getting back into the groove to the finishing line.

So what's NEXT?

Of course there's a next. I can't just stop there. This is a healthier lifestyle change, not a fad or a crash diet thingy. Where got crash diet for NINE MONTHS maaa.

So the game plan is -
  • First, to maintain the weight loss during Raya festivities. Wish me luck. Going to need LOTS of it!
  • Second, to exercise more!
  • Third, to lose another 5kgs in order to reach 45kg. The last time I weighed that was wayyyy back in 2003 when I first started working with the current company.
Oh gosh, it's still a long way to go but it's gonna worth it in so many ways, baby!

Thanks for those who's been in my network of support... when I have time I'll list you all, hehe.

P.S - I bought a new pair of jeans to celebrate this afternoon. Low rise, ripped waist. Feh.

run, Ted, run

Last week did at least 2km for several sessions. Jacked the old ticker rate up to a racing 171/minute. Boy, that felt good. Compensating for having been careening off the course lately with the Diet, courtesy of those mamak breakfast sessions and Chili's/TGIF/Rahsia lunches and dinners.

------------------

I used to run a lot. Physically, that is. Competing, even. Love the rush of adrenaline. The building of momentum, of getting in the pace, from start to finish. The do-or-die moments when the end is near. The giddy euphoria of reaching the red tape at the finishing line.

Run, and run, and run.
My timing mantra : "1,2, buckle my shoe" rhyme.
Left-right, left-right.
Rubber soles pounding on the ground. Stadium track. Tar. Concrete slabs. Grass. Treadmill.

Occasionally I still do it these days. But very, very much less and only as a once-in-a-blue-moon session except last week. Competing? Sorry beb. Very the busy-bee. An hour on the treadmill is considered a luxury already.

In a previous life (like during the Paleolithic era) I finished a KL Towerthon in 26 minutes and 29 seconds. Came out a surprised champion in the school cross-country competition. Snagged gold for 1,500m and 800m track events. Held the starting baton for our 4x100m team. Took on the challenge of the local half-marathon.

Gosh, I want to be able to run like that again.

Spiked shoes!!

i'm on a diet / Jimvertisement

Biah didn't order anything save for an ice kacang during lunch yesterday.

Me (to Biah) : What? You're not eating? But I'm the one who's supposed to be on diet!

* Jim : Eh, Mak Anjang, Mak Anjang on diet ke?

Me : Ye la.. kalau gemuk nanti Pak Anjang cari lain pulak...

* muntah hijau*

Hahahahahaha!

---------------------

* Jim - our 'newfound' buddy who suddenly seems to pop up everywhere and fits automatically into our schedules (and us into his) in the couple of weeks after the rendezvous in Genting. Previously known as a more senior colleague who strikes fear and panic whenever he calls due to the nature of his position. Calls me 'Mak Anjang' and Biah 'Mak Aji' as backlash for us calling him Pak Anjang to imply that he's old. Ok, maybe not THAT old, but old-er la. We always try to rub the fact in and he'd always pretend to not heard anything. Has carloads of nieces and nephews who must think he's the best uncle in the world for always giving in to their whims and fancies (just bought a 3-yr-old niece a Gameboy in pink, and always give away free concert & cinema preview tickets he got from work to the bigger ones).

Ok, suddenly this sounds like a Jimvertisement already.

So, any takers? Heheh.

Campaign update

REAL Progress update :

I'm down to 58.0 kg this week dearies! That would be about 2 kilos after about 3 weeks ( I started on 18 Jan 07), although I still eat somewhat normally (i.e multiple karipaps after meetings, fast food meals a couple of times etc etc). Last year even after the fasting month I only managed to be at most 58.5, and after a week of Raya twas all back to the usual, therefore reaching 58-point-oh is a big deal for me. Serius, I myself also like, tak percaya. But the figures should do the talking :)

Actually the only time that I absolutely really stuck to the plan is by replacing my breakfasts with the shake whereas dinners and snack times are usually where I'd succumb to temptation. Tried hard to make healthier choices in food too as well as make time for exercise- I think this would be the REAL make-or-break factor that would ensure the success of my lose-weight-get-fitter goal. Healthier choices in food, so far not so bad lah. But exercise, man... still not making enough effort for this one. Saya cuba lagi minggu depan, ok.

Doakanlah saye berjaye mencapai cita-cita menjadi lebih kurus dan sihat ini ye. Aminnn.

(non) Progress update

Demmit. I knew it, I didn't actually lose anything last time.

This morning's weigh-in session revealed that I'm back to square one after six days - 60.1kg.

Every day I'll be sabotaging The Great Diet Plan with one yummy item or another - a karipap or four (this is my BIGGEST vice), a breakfast danish, a couple of cheese crossaints, the handfuls of dhal marukku, extra servings of ikan masak lemak, those irresistible multiple helpings of begedil, well, etcetera etcetera.

Must. Have. Stronger. Willpower.

(starts chant)

One karipap is enough.

One karipap is enough.

One karipap is enough.

One karipap is enough.

Ted's Fight Against The Fat!

1. The Announcement

Yeah, see the above ticker?

Ted is officially on a Diet!

2. The Facts

For a short person like Ted, 60kg is quite overweight as she's supposed to be around the 48kg vicinity. Please don't ask what her height is - that's classified information. Even Sheila Majid is taller than her, k. And if you've known Ted for quite sometime, you're gonna notice that she has gained significant kgs in the past three years.

(Now why am I writing in the third-person viewpoint nih?)

3. The Why?

1) Being overweight is plainly, NOT HEALTHY. Gaining 16kgs in 3 years is another point under the NOT HEALTHY files. Believe it or not, I was 44kg in 2003. Hehe gua sendiri pun macam tak percaya.

2) I have a whole cupboard section and drawer with all the cute tops, kebayas and jeans that I can't fit into anymore. Even my baju kurungs are ketat now, ya'know.

3. The Plan

Erm, well, anyhoo this ain't one of them strict high-protein-low-carb, three-hour-daily-fat-burning-cardio-regime, no-fat-high-fibre or whatever stuff. Mati la kalau aku kena buat macam tu. I'm gonna do it pretty low-key, like, with proper nutritions and actual meals. Chewah. Plus exercise, of course. (Now THAT's another part that's worth a whole post on its own.)

And I'm doing it all with the aid of - (drumroll please) - Herbalife.

How could I not? I've been reading about the wonders of this thing online for a couple of months and I've gone for it line, hook and sinker. I've succumbed to their sweet promises of delicious shakes, lose weight though you still eat quite normally, nutritionally complete meal replacements and the oh-so-wonderful testimonials.

Call me a sucker, heh. But we'll see lah how.

The product is kinda expensive, so that will motivate me, I hope. For RM365 I get a box (cutesynamed 'Start Now Pack') with 3 containers of whey protein powder, nutritionally-complete strawberry shake powder and a tea-mix. Don't forget the scoop and the shake-mixer!

5. The How

Actually, I've a suspicion that simply by controlling my makan and exercising three times a week, one really COULD lose weight just fine, but I don't have strong-enough willpower to work on that alone. Now that I've spent some cold, hard RM on this, supposedly it'll motivate me to tahan myself from reaching out for yet another of those yummy karipaps at the cafeteria. Man I'm real partial to ALL kinds of karipaps - be it beef, chicken, sardine or simply plain kentang.

So here's how it's supposed to work : I'll be replacing my breakfasts and dinners with a concoction of the shake and whey protein, while for lunches I'm supposed to have one as usual. That's what really hooked me in, since it's perhaps the first time I've heard of a losing-weight plan that actually ALLOWS you to have a meal AS USUAL. I looveeeee delicious food with a capital F, wait, no, make it caps all the way, FOOD, and there's no way I'm gonna forgo enjoying them daily. Yeay for Food, glorious Food!

Then on course there's that need to exercise. Which I must, MUST find time to do. I'll be hitting the treadmill hopefully at least 2 times a week, and there's that yoga video that Leed has conveniently put in together with the shake-stuff. Oh yeah, she's the one that sold me the Herbalife product. She's lost 9kg and showed me her before-and-after pictures.

6. The Progress

Anyways, here I am now 4 days into The Plan.

Day 1 (morning) : 60.1kg
Day 4 (morning) : 59.3kg

Well actually I'm not sure whether I've really lost some weight or it's simply water and, erm, ahh, you know, that thing that goes swoosh into the toilet. Tee-hee.

Let's see how we do later after a month. Or two. Hmmm.

In the meantime, see me psyching myself :

(I soooooo gotta lose some weight, malu la if not, iye-iye je dah announce kat sini)

Wish me luck!
